On my Mac keyboard, theres a key labeled clear where the Num Lock key would be on a PC keyboard (above the numpad 7). The 'clear' key on the physical keyboard seems to do the same job. Typically, a Num Lock key can be used to override this mode to enter digit characters, and several terminal emulators have a preference to ignore this mode and always send digits.
